Claire Emslie scored the tying goal on a strong charge toward the net to knock in a rebound and Angel City pulled out a 2-2 draw against the Portland Thorns on Monday night at Los Angeles.
A strong individual effort from Jasmyne Spencer on the left side created the scoring chance for Angel City. Emslie was in the right spot for her seventh goal of the season after Spencer’s shot was batted into the air by Portland goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold.
Alyssa Thompson opened the scoring with a 10th-minute goal for Angel City (6-11-4, 22 points), who snapped a two-match losing streak.
Morgan Weaver scored four minutes into the second half and Olivia Moultrie notched a go-ahead goal in the 64th minute for Portland (8-9-4, 28 points).
Moultrie collected her fourth goal of the season and first since mid-May when she fired a shot into the left corner of the net following a strong Portland rush with four passes setting up the eventual shot.
The Thorns halted a four-match losing streak, but their winless string was extended to five matches.
Angel City goalkeeper DiDi Haracic made five saves. Arnold stopped two shots.
Meggie Dougherty Howard assisted on the first Angel City goal. The team ended up with two goals for the fourth time in its last five matches.
Marie Muller and Kelli Hubly had assists for Portland.
Angel City had more possession time and ended up with a 7-4 edge in shots on target.
It was the first meeting of the season between the teams, who face off again in the regular-season finale on Nov. 1.
