Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End episode 26 aired on Friday, March 8, 2024, at JST. It was rightfully titled The Height of Magic, hinting that Frieren was about to show the epitome of magical prowess. While fans believed the previous episode concluded Frieren and Fern’s battle against Frieren’s replica, the episode reminded fans that Frieren is not a force to be trifled with.
Beginning with deftly reiterating Serie’s words, the episode reminds viewers of how she recounts that it will either be the Demon King or a mere human who will kill Frieren. This expression holds a specific significance in the installment because it was Fern, Frieren’s human disciple, preparing to kill the great elven mage’s replica.
In a mind-blowing combat, Frieren launches several attacks on her replica while Fern awaits the perfect moment to barge in with a fatal blow. At the same time, other mages, as per Denken’s plan and Methode’s impeccable direction, take a position to tackle other replicas.
As such, the mages venture to defeat the monsters by putting up a fight against their weakest match-ups. Hence, they manage to defeat most replicas. However, Sense’s replica unexpectedly attacks Genau and Lawine, forcing them to use the golem and escape.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End episode 26 spoilers: Übel displays a superpower
Right when Genau and Lawine exit, Denken arrives to witness the formidable Sense’s replica. Though he arrives late, he admits that he couldn’t have done much even if he was there when Sense’s replica attacked his companions.
This is when Übel and Land arrive at the spot, and Übel, quite confidently, heads to tackle the lingering threat. Sense senses Übel preparing to challenge her replica. While uttering that she already knew who would win, she takes viewers two years back when Übel previously took the First Class Mage Exam.
The first-class mage narrates the story of Burg, a fellow first-class mage. The undefeatable mage was the proctor of the second round. Passing the round was simple. The participants had just successfully moved Burg as he stood on the ground.
The twist was that it was practically impossible to penetrate any magic through Burg’s Immovable Cloak. In a shocking moment, Übel stepped up and easily sliced through his body. However, since she killed him, she was disqualified from the test.
Sense, then, reminisces over her shared history with the third-class mage. She remembers how eccentric Übel sounded when she trusted her intuition and used her Reelseiden, the magic with which she killed Burg. Sense goes so far as to call Übel’s ability a superpower.
By the time the episode switches back to the present, Übel had, to everyone’s surprise, already defeated Sense’s replica. Elsewhere, Methode meets Wirbel and explains Denken’s plan.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End episode 26 ending: Frieren takes her replica down
While the mages fight against their respective match-ups, the already defeated replicas begin to resurface. This indicates that the mages would have to fight the replicas till no end, until they either destroy Spiegel or successfully reach the bottom of the dungeon.
Meanwhile, Frieren and Fern continue their fight against Frieren’s invincible replica, which refuses to die despite several fatal attacks, much like the original Frieren. However, Frieren had already devised a plan with Fern, which they used amid the spectacular combat.
The rest of the episode focuses on the grand fight involving the three powerful mages. However, Frieren’s replica launches a deadly blow at Fern, using a magic spell that Fern was unaware of, thrashing the mage into the wall. But Frieren finally manages to take the replica down.
Finally, Frieren destroys the Spiegel. Elsewhere, other mages, looking tarnished as they fought against the other replicas, take a breath of relief when the monsters disappear. In a winning moment, Sense announces that the twelve mages passed the second round of the Exam.
The episode ends light-heartedly with the great elven mage, who had just shown her overpowering strength, falling into another mimic’s trap and pleading to be taken out of there!
