Harry and Meghan reportedly were left in the dark about Kate’s health issues, beginning with her “planned” abdominal surgery in January. When Kate announced in March via a worldwide video that she was diagnosed with cancer, Harry and Meghan allegedly found out the news at the same time as the public.
“It speaks volumes that Harry and Meghan learned of the diagnosis from the news,” royal historian Richard Fitzwilliams told TIME in March.
Despite initially not being in the loop, Harry and Meghan were among the first to publicly release a statement of support to Kate. “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace,” they said to Us at the time.
It was also reported that Harry and Meghan had “privately” been in touch with William and Kate, per ITV Royal Editor Chris Ship. He wrote via X, “It [is] not clear if that was a phone/video call or some messages of support.”
