According to Deadline, Apple Studios has enlisted Super Mario Brothers vet John Leguizamo to join the Firebug cast for Apple TV+‘s upcoming thriller drama.
The Emmy-winning actor will be starring opposite Golden Globe winner Taron Egerton in the role of Esposito, who’s described as a former policeman with a lot of bad habits and a lot of good instincts. He will also be joining previously announced cast member Jurnee Smollett (Lovecraft Country), who’s be playing a detective named Michelle.
What to expect in Firebug?
“Loosely inspired by true events, Firebug centers around the story of a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists,” reads the initial logline.
Firebug is created, written and executive produced by Dennis Lehane, with Kari Skogland to direct. In addition to starring, the Rocketman star has also signed on to executive produce the project along with Skogland, Richard Plepler, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Kary Antholis. It hails from Apple Studios and Imperative Entertainment.
This marks Egerton’s latest collaboration with Apple, after starring in 2022’s crime drama series Black Bird, and in last year’s Tetris biopic. The Kingsman vet will next be seen in Netflix’s action thriller Carry-On.
