Speaking with GamesRadar+, Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo confirmed that he will once again pen the screenplay and serve as a producer in Netflix‘s Extraction 3, with Chris Hemsworth attached to reprise Tyler Rake.
“Yeah, we’re developing it at the moment, figuring out Chris’s schedule. Sam Hargrave is back directing,” Russo said. “It’s an interesting franchise because he’s a very emotionally wounded character, so there’s good storytelling there I think in respect to his backstory, and, you know, his relationship to violence is one that’s built around self-loathing and guilt. And so, it adds a lot of texture I think, which allows us to tell more stories about him. “
Extraction 2 was directed by Sam Hargrave from a screenplay written by Russo. The 2023 sequel also starred Golshifteh Farahani, Tornike Gogrichiani, Adam Bessa, Daniel Bernhardt, Tinatin Dalakishvili, and Olga Kurylenko. It was produced by Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo through their AGBO banner alongside Hemsworth. Compared to the first installment, the latest sequel was more well-received by critics and viewers, as it currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 135 reviews.
“After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held,” reads the synopsis of Extraction 2.
