NBC is once again raising prices on its Peacock streaming service, the second price jump for the subscription platform in two years.
According to a report from Variety, Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus — the service’s ad-free option — will see a price hike beginning in mid-July. Peacock Premium will increase $2 to $7.99 a month, and Peacock Premium Plus will go also go up $2, bringing its total to $13.99 a month.
The resulting price jump will see Peacock Premium’s annual price rise from $59.99 to $79.99, while Peacock Premium Plus will go up from $119.99 to $139.99. The new prices will go into effect beginning on July 18 for new subscribers, while existing subscribers won’t see the increase until August 17, 2024.
NBCUniversal continues trying to make Peacock profitable
Last year, NBCUniversal explained the price increase at the time, saying that it would allow the company to “continue to invest in the best user experience and the highest-quality content while remaining competitive in the marketplace.” In total, Peacock has amassed 34 million subscribers, which is up from last year’s 22 million subscribers.
The company is still trying to make the streaming platform profitable as its start-up losses persist. Last year, the company shut down Peacock’s free tier, which was previously available for new users and those who had certain cable subscriptions.
