What is Longing about?
“In the film, Daniel Bloch (Gere) is shocked to discover a startling secret from his past and is immediately consumed by the extraordinary twists of a new life he never could have imagined. With each new encounter, Daniel uncovers a deeper layer of this fascinating mystery until he arrives at a crossroads in his own life,” the synopsis reads.
Longing is an English remake of a 2017 Israeli film of the same name that was written and directed by Savi Gabizon. The 2017 version starred Shai Avivi, Asi Levi, Neta Riskin, and Ori Laizerouvich.
Gabizon also wrote and directed the new 2024 version of Longing. In addition to Gere (Pretty Woman, An Officer and a Gentleman) and Kruger (Inglorious Basterds, National Treasure), the film stars Suzanne Clément (STAT, The Origin of Evil) as a character named Rachel. Kruger, meanwhile, plays Alice, the favorite teacher of Gere’s character’s son.
Daniel Bekerman is producing the film alongside Alexander Vinnitski and Neil Mathieson. Myles Nestel, Lisa Wilson, Sara Shaak, Matt Smith Lyons, Lee Nelson, David Tish, Oren Moverman Gabizon, Hussain Amarshi, Moshe Edery, Avraham Pirchi, and Chilik Michaeli serve as executive producers.
“We have been incredibly fortunate to attract such a stellar and multi-award-winning cast for this very special and beautiful film, clearly a testament to Savi’s screenplay and vision for this English language remake,” Vinnitski previously said of Longing, via Deadline.
Longing is scheduled to be released in United States theaters on June 7, 2024, from Lionsgate and Grindhouse.
